Blurton Aluminium Race Bar

Blurton Aluminium Race Bar

Jim Blurton Aluminium Race Bar Front Shoe – Steel Toe Insert

Lightweight aircraft-grade aluminium race bar shoe, now featuring a steel toe insert for increased wear resistance and a choice of Toe Clips or Quarter Clips.

The Jim Blurton Aluminium Race Bar Front Shoe has been designed specifically for the demands of the Thoroughbred racehorse, combining lightweight aluminium construction with the additional support of a bar shoe – while still allowing the horse to perform fast work.

Now upgraded with a steel toe insert for additional wear, the shoe is available in both Toe Clipped and Quarter Clipped options.

Drop forged from aircraft-grade aluminium and heat-treated to optimise wear, the shoe maintains the ability to be reshaped by the farrier for an individual fit.

NEW Steel Toe Insert

The latest version incorporates a steel insert through the toe, providing additional durability and wear resistance in an area exposed to considerable ground contact.

This combines the lightweight advantages of aluminium with additional reinforcement where it is needed most.

Designed for the Thoroughbred Racehorse

The Aluminium Race Bar has been designed for Thoroughbreds requiring the support of a bar shoe without unnecessarily compromising their ability to undertake fast work.

It may be considered by the farrier or veterinarian for horses with hoof and soundness concerns such as:

  • Weak or compromised heels
  • Horses requiring additional heel support
  • Selected cases involving coffin joint discomfort
  • A broken or compromised Hoof-Pastern Axis (HPA)
  • Horses requiring a lightweight bar shoe for racing or fast work

The appropriate therapeutic or corrective shoeing approach should always be determined by a qualified farrier and veterinarian based on the individual horse.

Heel-Shaped Radius Bar

Rather than extending as a bulky straight bar behind the foot, the radius bar follows the natural shape of the heel bulbs.

This design provides additional support while maintaining a streamlined profile suitable for the demands of the racehorse.

Roll Toe

The shoe incorporates a rolled toe profile, providing the farrier with a purpose-designed breakover feature as part of the overall shoe design.

Safed-Off Heels

The heels are safed off, creating a carefully finished profile around the back of the shoe.

Combined with the radius bar, this contributes to the shoe's streamlined shape around the heel area.

Pitched Nail Holes

A distinctive feature of the Jim Blurton Race Bar is its pitched nail-hole design.

Each nail hole is positioned at a different angle to assist the farrier with appropriate nail placement and make the shoe easier to nail on.

Drop-Forged Aircraft-Grade Aluminium

The shoe is drop forged from aircraft-grade aluminium and heat-treated to optimise its wear characteristics.

Despite this manufacturing process, the aluminium retains sufficient workability to allow the professional farrier to reshape the shoe for an individual fit.

Corrective and therapeutic shoeing for hoof-pastern axis abnormalities, heel weakness, lameness or coffin joint pain should be undertaken by a qualified farrier in consultation with a veterinarian where appropriate.
