Calcium & Bone Mineral Supplement

Kohnke's Own Cal-XTRA is a concentrated calcium and bone mineral supplement for horses grazing oxalate-containing pastures.

Designed for horses in Queensland, the Northern Territory and parts of New South Wales and Victoria where oxalate grasses are common, and for horses on high-grain diets in moderate to intense training.

The Oxalate Problem

Tropical and sub-tropical grasses – particularly setaria, para, buffel, teff, pangola, kikuyu, couch and green panic – contain oxalates that bind calcium and reduce its absorption. The resulting calcium deficiency can lead to bone weakness, demineralisation, lameness and "Big Head".

Kohnke's Concept for Cal-XTRA

Developed from more than 12 years of research and field trials by equine veterinarian Dr John Kohnke, Cal-XTRA uses palatable forms of calcium protected by a specialised micro-coating that shields calcium from oxalate binding, supporting calcium uptake even on tropical grass pastures.
