How Does Equi-Solfen Work?

Equi-Solfen combines four active ingredients that provide complementary actions at the wound site:

Lignocaine – a local anaesthetic that blocks nerve signals responsible for the sensation of pain, helping reduce the horse's pain response.

Bupivacaine – a longer-acting local anaesthetic that complements lignocaine to provide extended local pain relief.

Adrenaline – constricts local blood vessels, helping reduce blood loss from the wound.

Cetrimide – an antiseptic and surfactant that helps protect the wound against microbial contamination and supports wound management.

Together, these ingredients provide an integrated approach to pain relief, bleeding control, antiseptic protection and wound care.

Rapid & Lasting Pain Relief

Pain associated with wounds can cause significant discomfort and distress.

Equi-Solfen contains both lignocaine and bupivacaine, providing local anaesthetic action directly at the application site.

These ingredients work by temporarily blocking the transmission of pain signals from damaged tissue, helping make the horse more comfortable while the wound begins to heal.

Helps Reduce Bleeding

Adrenaline provides local vasoconstrictor activity, causing blood vessels around the wound to narrow.

This helps reduce local blood flow and control bleeding from appropriate superficial wounds.

Antiseptic Protection

Equi-Solfen contains cetrimide, an antiseptic and surfactant that provides additional protection at the wound site.

This helps reduce microbial contamination and supports an environment suitable for normal wound healing.

Spray-On Protective Gel

Equi-Solfen is specially formulated as a ready-to-use spray-on gel, allowing convenient application directly to the affected area.

The formulation helps coat, seal and protect the superficial wound while keeping the active ingredients in contact with the treatment area.

Important Information

Equi-Solfen contains pharmacologically active local anaesthetics and adrenaline and should only be used according to the current registered product label.

It is intended for appropriate superficial skin wounds and should not be used as a substitute for veterinary treatment of deep, extensive or complicated injuries.

Seek veterinary attention for wounds that are:

  • Deep or heavily contaminated
  • Puncture wounds
  • Located over or close to a joint, tendon or tendon sheath
  • Associated with significant or uncontrolled bleeding
  • Showing swelling, heat, discharge or other signs of infection
  • Located near the eye or other sensitive structures
  • Not healing normally

Because local anaesthetics reduce pain sensation, pain relief should not be used to mask an injury that requires veterinary investigation.

For horses involved in racing or regulated competition, check the current withholding period and applicable prohibited-substance rules before use.

Always read and follow the current Equi-Solfen product label before application.
