Baxter Glucose 5% IV infusion is an intravenous glucose solution for non-electrolyte fluid replacement and drug delivery.

Designed for use under veterinary direction in clinical fluid therapy.

Supplied as a 1 L infusion.

Indications

Glucose 5% intravenous infusions are mainly indicated:

• Whenever non-electrolyte fluid replacement is required
• As a vehicle for drug delivery, provided the added components are compatible with glucose

Contraindications

The product information lists the following contraindications:

• Infusion of hypertonic glucose in patients with intracranial or intraspinal haemorrhage, severe dehydration with delirium tremens, anuria or diabetic coma
• Patients with known allergy to corn or corn products, as cornstarch is used as a raw material for glucose production
• Use after an ischaemic stroke, as induced lactic acidosis can impair recovery of damaged brain tissue

Baxter Glucose 5% provides non-electrolyte fluid replacement and a compatible vehicle for drug delivery in veterinary fluid therapy.

Intravenous fluids should only be given as directed by a veterinarian or by an experienced person using sterile equipment and aseptic technique. Inappropriate fluid type, volume or rate can cause serious complications, particularly in animals with cardiac, renal or electrolyte abnormalities. Do not use if the solution is cloudy, discoloured, contains particles or the container or seal is damaged. Check withholding periods and, for racing or competition horses, confirm detection times and rules with your veterinarian. Always read the label before use. Keep out of reach of children.
