Semi-Permanent Hoof Repair Putty

Keratex Hoof Putty is a semi-permanent hoof repair putty designed to plug and protect holes, cavities and areas of hoof separation from mud, grit and debris.

Designed for use following hoof abscesses, minor punctures and hoof separation, this versatile adhesive filling compound creates a dense, semi-permanent plug that helps prevent mud, stones, grit and debris from becoming packed into the cavity – helping protect the area while the hoof recovers and when returning your horse to normal turnout.

When Can Keratex Hoof Putty Be Used?

Following an abscess – once an abscess has been appropriately treated and drained, the putty can plug the remaining cavity after any required poulticing has been completed and the area thoroughly cleaned.

Minor punctures & hoof cavities – to plug appropriate small, clean cavities once the area has been properly assessed, cleaned and treated.

Hoof separation – its semi-permanent wax consistency helps seal and stabilise areas of hoof separation while preventing dirt and debris from lodging in the space.

Additional hoof support – professional farriers may also use Keratex Hoof Putty as additional cushioning in certain therapeutic hoof-care applications.

Directions

Ensure the cavity is clean, appropriately treated and ready to be plugged. Take the required amount of putty and mould it thoroughly in clean hands – the warmth will gradually soften it. Press the softened putty firmly into the cavity to create a dense, secure plug; it will firm again to create a durable protective filling.

Helpful tip: Keratex Hoof Putty is designed to be very firm in the container – this is normal. If necessary, keep the container at room temperature before use, or gently warm the closed container in a bowl of warm (not hot) water to make the putty easier to remove.

Important Information

Hoof punctures can be serious, particularly when the depth or structures involved are unknown. Do not remove or plug a newly discovered penetrating object or deep puncture before obtaining veterinary advice. Abscesses, significant hoof separation, persistent lameness, heat, swelling or suspected infection should be assessed by a veterinarian and/or qualified farrier. Use only once the underlying condition has been properly assessed and treated.
