Half Mesh Hoof Pad for Caudal Support

The Jim Blurton 3D HoofCare Half Mesh (HM) Pad is a specialised half mesh hoof pad designed for use with impression material or lightweight hoof packing to help distribute load across the caudal aspect of the hoof.

Designed for farriers supporting the frog, heels and caudal structures of the hoof, used with Dental Impression Material (DIM) or lightweight hoof packing such as Glue-U Shufill.

Available in Flat (sizes 2, 3, 4 and 5) and 3° (sizes 3, 4 and 5) configurations.

Caudal Hoof Support

The HM Pad is designed to share load across the caudal aspect of the hoof rather than relying predominantly on peripheral hoof-wall loading. With correctly applied impression material or packing, the farrier can provide additional support beneath the back of the foot, including the frog area.

This may be particularly useful for selected horses with:

• Sore or sensitive heels
• Poor caudal hoof support
• Hoof conformations requiring additional frog support
• Corns or a tendency to heel discomfort
• Hooves requiring greater load distribution
• Hoof-Pastern Axis (HPA) concerns requiring professional farrier management

Half Mesh Construction

The mesh provides increased protection while creating a structure through which compatible packing or impression material can be incorporated. Compared with a full mesh pad, the Half Mesh design leaves part of the sole exposed.

3° Frog Recess

All 3° HM Pads feature a corresponding 3° frog recess, helping accommodate a prolapsed or descended frog while allowing the farrier to use the degree pad without unnecessarily increasing pressure through the frog. Degree options give the farrier an additional tool when hoof elevation is required, including selected cases where Hoof-Pastern Axis management is a consideration.

Suitable Environment

Because part of the sole is left exposed, the pad is intended for horses kept and ridden in a controlled environment where stones and sharp objects are unlikely to penetrate the exposed sole. For horses regularly working or turned out on stony, rocky or abrasive surfaces, a pad with greater sole coverage may be more appropriate.

The 3D HoofCare Half Mesh Pad gives farriers a versatile system for supporting the frog, heels and caudal structures of the hoof.

Correct pad selection, hoof packing and degree elevation should be determined and applied by an experienced farrier. Horses with persistent heel pain, corns, prolapsed frogs, abnormal hoof-pastern axis, hoof distortion or lameness should be assessed, with veterinary involvement where required.
