Kentucky Race Recovery
Kentucky Race Recovery
Racing Optimised Electrolyte
Kentucky Race Recovery is a racing-optimised electrolyte that replaces essential electrolytes lost by horses trained on furosemide (Lasix), stimulating thirst and body weight rebound to improve recovery before racing.
Designed for racehorses trained on furosemide, endurance horses and horses prone to thumps. Horses with insufficient electrolyte replacement risk loss of stamina and early onset of fatigue.
A palatable formulation mixed thoroughly into feed.
Replacing Furosemide Losses
Furosemide is used to reduce the incidence of exercise-induced pulmonary haemorrhage (EIPH), or bleeding. Studies by Kentucky Equine Research in exercised and unexercised mature Thoroughbred geldings found furosemide causes a substantial loss of minerals, including a 40- to 50-fold increase in 4-hour urinary sodium and chloride loss and a sustained calcium loss over several days. With Race Recovery, these mineral losses are entirely reversible.
Race Recovery strategically replaces electrolytes at critical times after furosemide, and is also suitable as a daily electrolyte supplement for horses given furosemide.
Endurance & Thumps
The high calcium and magnesium content makes Race Recovery well suited to endurance horses at rides and horses prone to thumps. Adjust intake according to sweat loss and preload before the ride or race.
Ideal For
- Racehorses trained on furosemide
- Daily electrolyte replacement during training
- Endurance horses
- Horses prone to thumps
Key Benefits
- Targeted electrolyte supplementation for horses trained on furosemide
- Highly digestible calcium and magnesium – two key minerals lost after furosemide use
- Palatable formulation to ensure consumption
- Increases water intake and body weight replacement, so horses eat better and recover from the gallop faster
- Stimulates thirst
- Supports endurance horses, especially those prone to thumps
Feeding Rate
- Give 60 g Restore Paste after galloping following furosemide use to stimulate thirst.
- After furosemide: feed 60 g of Race Recovery twice a day, mixed thoroughly in feed, for 2–3 days thereafter.
- Feed 60 g per day to replenish electrolytes lost during training.
- Endurance horses: give 30–60 g in each feed at the ride base, at vet checks and for 2 days after the ride. Use Restore during regular training.
Recommendations are for horses with a mature bodyweight of 500 kg – adjust according to your horse's weight.
Complete Race Day Recovery
Kentucky Race Recovery replaces the minerals lost to furosemide and sweat, helping horses drink, eat and recover faster between gallops and races.
Always allow free-choice access to clean, fresh water after supplementing electrolytes. Consult a veterinarian before feeding electrolytes to a horse that is not willing to drink. Always read the label before use, and for racing horses confirm detection and pre-race rules with your veterinarian.
