Penetrene Liniment for Horses & Dogs

Penetrene is a traditional liniment for horses and dogs, formulated to assist in the relief of sprains, strains and rheumatism.

Ideal for use as part of an equine post-exercise or recovery routine, Penetrene can be applied as a liniment or prepared as a leg and body wash following exercise or racing.

For Sprains & Strains

For sprains and strains, warm the affected area with hot water, then dry thoroughly and stimulate the area by massaging.

Apply a small amount of Penetrene at full strength, using enough to wet the hair. Massage thoroughly with the fingers and thumb, working from the outside towards the centre of the affected area.

Apply three times daily for 3–4 days, then morning and night as directed on the product label.

Penetrene Leg Wash

Penetrene can also be used as a leg wash. Apply freely and bandage under cotton wool for 2–3 hours or overnight, according to label directions.

Post-Workout or Racing Wash

For use after exercise or racing, prepare the Penetrene wash using:

• 13 mL Penetrene ‘A’ Liniment
• 750 mL water or witch hazel
• 250 mL vinegar
• A small amount of saltpetre (potassium nitrate), if available

Sponge the legs and body muscles with the prepared wash following exercise or racing.

Composition

• Aniseed Oil: 3.7 g/kg
• Sassafras Oil: 2.6 g/kg
• Menthol: 11.4 g/kg
• Acetone: 793 g/kg

Safety Information

Avoid contact with the eyes. If eye contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water. Do not inhale vapour and wash hands after using the product.

If poisoning occurs, seek urgent medical attention and contact the Poisons Information Centre (Australia) on 13 11 26. If swallowed, do not induce vomiting; give a glass of water and seek medical advice.

Penetrene is a versatile liniment to keep on hand for working and performance horses, particularly for post-exercise leg and muscle care and the management of everyday sprains and strains.
