Sterile Isotonic Saline Solution

Saline Sodium Chloride 0.9% Drip (Sodium Chloride Injection BP 0.9%, "normal saline") is a sterile solution of sodium chloride in water for injection.

Designed for fluid and electrolyte replacement, dilution of compatible injectable medicines and sterile irrigation, under veterinary direction.

Supplied as a 1 L sterile solution.

• Sodium chloride 0.9% – approximately 9 mg/mL in water for injection

Fluid & Electrolyte Replacement

Sodium and chloride are important electrolytes for normal fluid balance, osmotic pressure and cellular function. Saline may be used when fluid and electrolyte replacement is clinically indicated; the volume, route and rate depend on the individual animal and should be determined by a veterinarian or suitably qualified professional.

Dilution of Injectable Medicines

It may be used to dilute or prepare compatible injectable medicines, or as a vehicle for compatible medicines given by infusion. Not all medicines are compatible with sodium chloride – always check the medication's product information first.

Sterile Irrigation

The solution may also be used for sterile irrigation in appropriate clinical applications, using aseptic technique.
